Restoration, Refurbishment and New Trafalgar Square Entrance for the Canadian High Commission

Robinson Kenning & Gallagher completed a prestigious refurbishment to Canada House in Trafalgar Square, London for the Canadian High Commission. Opened by Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada, represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The historic building was built between 1824 and 1927 under the direction of Sir Robert Smirke, the leading Greek revivalist architect and designer of both the Royal Opera House and the British Museum.

RKG were appointed to provide design and heritage expertise to ensure quality and appropriateness of the design. The contract involved improvements to the ground floor reception rooms, reinstatement of original embassy entrance, new reception blast screens, new glazed DDA ramp, new stone entrance steps, together with the formation of new kitchens and toilets. Constant on-site RKG technical assistance was provided to the Contractor during the construction period.
