Waterloo Station: Balcony, London

Concourse Retail Overhaul and Retail Balcony for Network Rail

Robinson Kenning & Gallagher were approached by Network Rail to develop proposals for the longest retail balcony in UK Station history as part of the £25m improvement scheme at Waterloo Station. Feasibility design included consideration for shopper and passenger movement along a new 220m length balcony and conversion of the complete Network Rail suite of offices situated over the main Station concourse.

RKG prepared concept designs through to the detailed tender design for all retail unit areas, public balcony and concourse alterations, and the introduction of a two-storey retail unit and elevated wraparound cocktail bar. The completed balcony substantially improves pedestrian flow and rail experience for three hundred thousand passengers daily, whilst providing a shopping destination with over 55,000ft² of new prime retail space.

Project Value: £25m
