New Retail Development for Network Rail
RKG were appointed by Network Rail to prepare feasibility to tender proposals for a new two storey retail unit between two working platforms at the centre of London’s busiest terminal to provide over 750m² of prime retail floor area accessed directly off the centre of the main concourse at Waterloo. The Contractor (Spence) for the construction phase retained RKG’s services through to completion including site support.
An innovative design solution included relocating existing advertising gantry columns and amending the ticket gateline and station bin store. In additional to providing this key retail opportunity, a much-needed new Welfare Facilities building for platform staff was created. With three hundred thousand passengers per day crossing Waterloo’s concourse it was hoped the new retail unit would see a commercial return within three years.
Designed with an impactive store shopfront and contemporary blue colour banding, this retail unit does not go unnoticed in the centre of London’s busiest terminal.
