Waterloo Station: Boots, London

New Retail Development for Network Rail

Robinson Kenning & Gallagher were appointed by Network Rail to prepare feasibility to tender proposals for a new two-storey retail unit in Waterloo Station. The unit is located between two working platforms (in the centre of London’s busiest terminal) provides over 750m² of prime retail floor area accessed directly off the main concourse. The Contractor for the construction phase (Spence) retained RKG’s services through to project completion.

The design solution to create the floor area required for the new unit, included relocating existing advertising gantry columns and amending the ticket gateline and station bin store. In addition, a much-needed new Welfare Facilities building for platform staff was created. With three hundred thousand passengers per day crossing Waterloo’s concourse it was hoped the new retail unit would see a commercial return within three years.

Project Value: £2.3m
