Surveys of the Existing Depot Train Shed Structures and Design Options for Network Rail
As part of a major Network Rail Station Regeneration Project, Robinson Kenning & Gallagher were instructed to develop an ‘Image Guide’ by the Network Rail Regional Architect. The purpose of the document was to advise prospective Design and Build Tenderers in respect of preferred design requirements for future depot projects. The guidance notes highlighted the many issues to be addressed by Contractors entering into a Design and Build Contract: including site security, imagery for depot sites, treatments for the external façades for the main train shed buildings and advice on Network Rail’s maintenance access regime.
The System Review Panel (SRP) Project at Ramsgate Depot was the first contract where these key Client’s requirements were successfully implemented. The brief required RKG to carry out surveys of the depot train shed structures and then prepare alternative elevation designs for Client comment and approval. The final designs were issued to prospective Contractors as part of the D&B tender package.
